La référence est présente sur HAL mais est incomplÚte (il manque les co-auteurs et le fichier pdf). The current application of the design process through energy efficiency in virtual reality (VR) systems is limited mostly to building performance predictions, as the issue of the data formats and the workflow used for 3D modeling, thermal calculation and VR visualization. The importance of energy efficiency and integration of advances in building design and VR technology have lead this research to focus on thermal simulation results visualized in a virtual environment to optimize building design, particularly concerning heritage buildings. The emphasis is on the representation of thermal data of a room simulated in a virtual environment (VE) in order to improve the ways in which thermal analysis data are presented to the building stakeholder, with the aim of increasing accuracy and efficiency. The approach is to present more immersive thermal simulation and to project the calculation results in projective displays particularly in Immersion room (CAVE-like). The main idea concerning the experiment is to provide an instrument of visualization and interaction concerning the thermal conditions in a virtual building. Thus the user can immerge, interact, and perceive the impact of the modifications generated by the system, regarding the thermal simulation results. The research has demonstrated it is possible to improve the representation and interpretation of building performance data, particularly for thermal results using visualization techniques.Direktorat Riset dan Pengabdian Masyarakat (DRPM) Universitas Indonesia Research Grant No. 2191/H2.R12/HKP.05.00/201

This paper describes the work done to improve the visitor’s experience while visiting the historical site of Cluny abbey, in Burgundy (France). The church of this abbey, founded in 910 and which was the biggest church of Christendom until the 15th century, has been almost completly destroyed after the French Revolution and so is hard to figure out for the visitors. The usage of virtual reality is one of the way to improve the understanding of the architecture of the site

Digital rebirth of the greatest church of Cluny Maior Ecclesia: From optronic surveys to real time use of the digital Model

Our multidisciplinary team has virtually reconstructed the greatest church of the Romanesque period in Europe. The third church of the Abbey of Cluny (12th c.) has been destroyed after the French Revolution, leaving only 8% of the building standing. Many documents have been studied, to include the latest archaeological knowledge in the virtual model. Most remains have been scanned for CAD restitution. The mock-up of the church needed 1600 different numerical files, including the scanned pieces and the anastylosis of a Romanesque portal, a Gothic façade and a mosaic pavement. We faced various difficulties to assemble the different elements of the huge building, and to include the digitized parts. Our workflow consisted in generating geometrical shapes of the church, enriched with metadata such as texture, material... The whole mock up was finally exported to dedicated software to run the rendering step. Our work consisted in creating a whole database of 3D models as well as 2D sources (plans, engravings, pictures...) accessible by the scientific community. The scientific perspectives focus on a representation in virtual immersion of the grand church at scale 1 and an access to the digital mock-up through Augmented Reality.Gunzo projec

Space and time scaling issues in data management: the virtual restitution of Cluniac heritage

    Get PDF
Recent research projects led in Cluny have focused on interoperability issues between computer-aided design (CAD) and geographic information system (GIS). In one of these projects, the Gunzo project went through a complete digital restitution of what was the largest church in the world during five centuries. In another project, a 3D GIS of the Cluny region was set up and led to the idea of designing an online historical and archaeological 3D database. This involves the development of time-based 3D data management functionalities in which both CAD and GIS could exchange information. Thanks to the close collaboration between interdisciplinary fields, the team managed to formulate the basis of a joint workflow. These steps are promising and could meet in the future this long-time dream of the scientific community: to be able to tie together CAD and GIS models with temporality on a single georeferenced collaborative platform, so closely that it will be possible to navigate through the history of a city in 3D.Conseil Régional de Bourgogne, FEDER, ENSAM, Conseil Général de SaÎne et Loir

Test-bench for evaluating navigation and interaction in large virtual databases

    Get PDF
3D systems due to its complicated electronical, mechanical and vision accessories have enormous degree of complexity both in design and evaluation. Navigation system usually plays an important role in most 3D systems. Therefore, having an efficient navigation system and evaluation of the system has great deal of importance. 3D systems have a lot of parameters, inputs and outputs thus; evaluation process requires a complete test bench to collect and analyse maximum possible efficient parameters and variables. This paper will propose a test bench based on a tracker, navigation device status, and some biological and motion feedback from end-user to analyse a 3D system and associated navigation system performance. An original test procedure will be provided for evaluating navigation in 3D scenes by focusing on experimental aspects such as metric variable definition for measurement, case selection criteria and test-bed design. The novelty in our approach is the use of information given by the brain to understand the human perception in VE and to improve navigation in 3D scenes and interaction with virtual reality

Improvement of the real-time gesture analysis by a new mother wavelet and the application for the navigation inside a scale-one 3D system

    Get PDF
This paper proposes a navigation technique for traveling inside a real-scale 3D model based on human gesture analysis. In the ïŹrst step, a simple threshold is used as a criterion to analyze gestures. In the next step, a complex criterion will be imposed to the analysis to improve the navigation technique. Walking is a periodic signal and moving feet up and down is a part which is repeated. A mother wavelet is allocated to the selected pattern. Then the position of the pattern is recognized by applying Multi Resolution Analysis (MRAs). The movement command is generated and sent to the graphic render (as a movement command). Analytical results show a very high precision performance in the presence of noise, scale variation and superposition of other signals. Practical experiments also verify the same promising results.FUI Callist
